The family and many friends of Sandra Leigh Polvi mourn her passing on November 7, 2024 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, after a brief illness. Sandra was born in May 1957 in Melville SK, and raised in the small village of Waldron, Saskatchewan. Sandra was a vibrant and very inquisitive soul, bringing joy to many. She was predeceased by her brother, Vaughn in 1985; and her parents, Daphne, in 2002, and Raymond, in 2009. Sandra is survived by her sister, Natalie; brother-in-law, Cory; cherished nephews, Liam and Eric; her aunt, Norma; plus many cousins and friends. Sandra attended school in Waldron (grades 1-8) and then Melville (grades 7-12, via school bus). She graduated from Melville Comprehensive High School in 1985. Thereafter she attended Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon, completing her two-year diploma as a Research Laboratory Technician. Initially she worked in several labs/departments at the University of Saskatchewan (e.g., Pharmacology, Health Sciences) followed by a 30-year career with the National Research Council in Saskatoon. Sandra cultivated deep friendships and was family oriented, readily helping and contributing. Sandra was very devoted to her nephews Liam and Eric; attending their school and sport/recreational events, taking them camping and to cultural events including plays, movies, and community events. She often reminded them she would instill a love of culture into them whether they liked it or not! As graduation gifts she took them to a country of their choosing (Liam to Rome; Eric to Greece). Recreationally, Sandra had an early and enduring love of art and creativity; travel; and generally a thirst for knowledge. She learned and engaged in a very wide variety of creative pursuits, including drawing, painting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting and even constructing an outdoor willow chair. She was a longtime member of the Society for Companions of Good Cheer (wine-tasting club), the Society for Creative Anachronism, and a number of bookclubs over the years. Sandra's love for knowledge and the arts also inspired extensive travels, enriching her life and those around her. To say that Sandra had a love of travel would be an understatement. Her early travels included cycling trips and/or camping, particularly a cycling trip on Prince Edward Island with a friend. She travelled to many different countries, with her favourites being Morocco and Italy (particularly Rome). Her warmth and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
