Sandra (Sandy) Elizabeth Sutherland

Sandra Elizabeth Sutherland (Sandy) passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026 after a month long battle against heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other complications. Although in severe pain she still managed to keep her sense of humour and spirits up until the very end. She passed away peacefully with her family by her bedside.

Born in Toronto, Sandy came to Saskatoon in the late 1960's. She spent many years in the restaurant business managing the food concessions at Gordie Howe Park, Wildwood Golf Course and the Granite Curling Rink.

In 1991 she moved with her partner (now husband) Scott to Victoria, B.C. where they owned and operated a "Busy Little" restaurant in downtown as well as concessions at Elk and Beaver Lakes.

Following her first diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and unable to work they moved back to Saskatoon in 1995 - not working didn't last long! She almost immediately started running the kitchen and food services at the C.N. Curling Rink establishing a loyal following of curlers who supported her efforts especially the Wednesday Night "Fancy Suppers" that were a big hit.

After two seasons at the C.N. Sandy was poached by the Hub City Curling Rink, it was at the Hub that she really hit her stride, catering for lots of bonspiels, national championships and Christmas parties. Highlights included the Friars Briar, National Dentists and Doctors and the Canadian National Darts Championship in the summer of 2004.

So... from 1996-1998 it was curling rink in the winter, golf course in the summer looking after all the food services at Holiday Park Golf Course in the summer, catering for all the tournaments as well as establishing the BBQ on the Patio which was a big success.

After the curling rink closed, Sandy went to work as a courier starting out delivering food (pizzas, Chinese food, etc.) and then onto parts and parcels etc. for Northend Transport although, perhaps not the speediest of drivers she was well liked by all the costumers because of her laughter and attitude, trading chirps with all the guys.

Sadly in 2016 after several health issues, Sandy had to stop working which was something she was not good at. She found the days long and boring but eventually enjoyed putting in the flower beds and trying new recipes.

Sandy was an open, friendly person who enjoyed the big events, volunteering at the Briar, Louis Riel Day, Canada Day, etc.

One of her biggest claims to fame was acting as a hostess to John Diefenbaker during a federal election campaign when he came to the small town of Marcelin, she organized the meeting, the banquet and everything else, but she never did say if she voted for him.

Sandy had 4 children, a son who died in 1988 and 3 daughters Leah, Teresa and Kara, 5 grandchildren A.J., Mathew, James, Cassandra and Tyler, all of whom she loved very much. 2 of her 3 brothers are still alive, Mike of Saskatoon and Wayne in Whitby, Ontario. Both of whom have been strong for her during this past month.

Sandy will be remembered for her willingness to take on big projects, her big laugh and personality and those world famous butter tarts.

Lets hope she rests in peace because she certainly deserves to.

There will be a Celebration of her Life at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Saskatoon Funeral Home.
