Sarah Braun

June 22, 1923 — August 21, 2024

Sarah Marie Braun was born in Warman, SK on June 22, 1923 and died in Saskatoon on August 21, 2024, soon after her 101st birthday.

Sarah was the daughter of Peter and Marie (nee Martens) Driedger and sister to a younger brother Fred, who died in 1989. Her mother died in childbirth and she was later adopted by Frank and Elizabeth Baerg of Hepburn. Thus, she acquired an older sister and five other brothers. In 1952 Sarah married John Braun, a handsome farm boy from Osler, who died in 1998.

Sarah is survived by her son Eric Braun; daughter Brenda (Audie) Mertz; two grandchildren, Derrick Mertz (Therese Chevalier) and Hayley (Drew) Dubnyk and two great grandsons, Cash and Colt Dubnyk.

Surviving paternal nieces and nephews are: Robert (Darlene) Braun, Karen (Dennis) Voth, June Fedrau (Rick Boire), Janet (Randy) Boehm, Lloyd Fedrau (Sheila Baier), Marilyn Bate, Bill (Hilary) Braun, Diana (Ben) Buhler, Deb (Wayne) Storozuk, Barb (Glenn) Crawford, Judith Braun and Stephen Braun (Gina Wilson).

Surviving maternal nieces and nephews are: Gail Jones, Dawn Crump, Gary (Meg) Baerg, Roberta (Barry) Boyle, Kathryn Baerg, David (Caroline) Baerg, Maggie Baerg, Stephen Baerg, Joanne (Bob) Banman, Bonny (Jim) Peters and many others; as well as cousin Leona Friesen.

After three years of instruction and practice at Regina Grey Nun's Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with award winning high marks, Sarah completed all requirements to become a Registered Nurse in 1948. She worked at all hospitals in the Saskatoon area at the time, often as a private nurse, before retiring to become a full time mother and homemaker.

Sarah was the exemplar of maternal unconditional love, kindness, generosity and forgiveness. The family was her life and passion. She held it together. There are no words for our loss.

Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all staff on the 7th floor at St. Paul's Hospital for the care and compassion our mum received during her stay.

The Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 28th at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery. Please meet at the front gates of the cemetery at 12:45.
