Sean Andrew Steacy

1986-2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sean Andrew Steacy at the age of 39 years old due to illness on December 9th, 2025.

Sean was born on June 20th, 1986 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to loving parents, Graham and Debby. Along with older brother James and younger sister Heather, the family moved to Lethbridge, Alberta in 1990. While growing up, Sean cultivated a lifelong passion for nature, animals and learning any skill where he would be challenged. Sean was always very mechanically inclined and loved working with his hands. Sean developed an intense love for hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and flying planes. Sean always seemed most "at home" going fast and soaring through the clouds. Sean also became an excellent cook, often sharing new recipes he had found and altered to put his own unique twist on them.

Sean was also very athletically inclined, eventually finding tremendous success in the sport of track & field in both pole vault and hammer throw. Sean competed for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, winning a national championship in the weight throw in 2008. Sean also earned the privilege of representing Team Canada on multiple occasions in the hammer throw, with the highlight of his career being winning gold at the 2008 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) championships that same year.

Sean spent the next 10 years in Lethbridge working at the Lethbridge Airport and Air-West Aviation in many different capacities, and flying any chance he could. Sean also honed his love of guns and mechanical work and started his own successful gunsmith business: Coppertop Gunsmithing.

One of the absolute highlights of Sean's life was being able to re-create a driving tour of Ireland in 2014 with his dad Graham, that Graham originally did with his own father in 1989. The pair spent several weeks circling the island, learning about the Steacy family history and creating incredible lifelong memories such as enjoying the perfect pint of Guinness at St. James's Gate in Dublin. Sean and Graham also made a point of attending the Highland Games in Canmore, Alberta each summer as often as they could as bagpipes and all things Scottish were a shared passion.

In 2018, Sean had the opportunity to relocate to Borden, Saskatchewan to help continue operating the Buswell Family Farm after the passing of uncle John Buswell. Sean spent the next seven years doing hands-on research about all aspects of how to raise cattle and run a farm. Farming turned out to be a great passion of Sean's and he had found his life's calling.

Sean became a fixture in Borden, joining the Borden Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter and first responder. Sean often spoke very highly of the pride he felt acting in the capacity of a first responder and feeling like he and the amazing people he worked alongside truly made a difference each day. While in the Borden area, Sean created and ran his businesses Steacy Cattle Company and Old Crow Welding; both of which Sean was extremely proud of.

In 2024 Sean met Laura and they both felt as though they had found "their person". Laura shared that during one evening, while dancing together in the kitchen of the farmhouse, Sean asked if they could "do life together forever." The house was always full of music, the wonderful smells of Sean's cooking, and the incredibly whacky personalities of their cats Stella and Poppy. Their mutual love of music (especially bagpipes), animals, fascination with world history and planning adventures of all kinds including travel to Nova Scotia and Ireland brought them closer and closer together.

Sean is survived by partner Laura McGuire, brother James (Brittany) Steacy, sister Heather (Shelby) Steacy, cousin Kerry (David) Buswell Brown, and uncle Andrew Borzel. Sean is also survived by nieces Hannah Steacy, Madeylyn Brown and nephew Oliver Brown.

Sean was predeceased by parents Graham and Debby Steacy, grandparents Dick and Mary Steacy, grandparents Art and Shirley Borzel, uncle and aunt John and Miriam Buswell and his soul-dog Henry.

In accordance with Sean's wishes, no service will be held.
