Shirley Ostafie

Shirley Louise Ostafie (Nee: Gough), born August 7th 1958, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on September 19th surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of Ken Ostafie for 41 years, a devoted mother to Sarah (Jeff Saganski) and Kevin (Lisa Ostafie). She was the cherished grandmother to Sarah and Jeff’s boys, Owen, Dean and Maxwell. She is also survived by her siblings Deb MacLean (Dave MacLean) and Brent Gough (Rhonda Gough), as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Cecil Gough and Odelle Gough.

To know Shirley was to know love, light, and laughter. She was the vibrant heart and unwavering rock of our family. Her warmth and generosity knew no bounds, and she created a home that was always full of joy, support, and unconditional love. Holidays were always such a special time because of the care and detail she put into every moment, ensuring that all felt uniquely special. She touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her spirit was a force of nature, full of life and an infectious energy that could light up any room.

Her greatest pride and joy, was her family. As a loving wife, she built a beautiful partnership filled with laughter, adventure and devotion. As a mother, she was our biggest cheerleader, our wisest counselor, and our safest harbor. As a grandmother, she was a source of magic, mischief, and pure selfless love, creating memories for the boys that they will carry in their hearts forever.

While our hearts are broken, we find solace in the incredible legacy of love she leaves behind. We will forever cherish the precious memories of her. Christmas in front of her tree, family trips with all of us packed in the car, simple daily phone calls that always left us feeling better than we had before. Her brilliant smile, her love of pickleball and reading, the way she made our birthday cakes, and filled photo boxes for each special occasion or holiday.

A celebration of Shirley’s remarkable life will be held on Friday September 26th at 11:00am in the chapel at Saskatoon Funeral Home.

The family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Saskatoon Cancer Society, or simply by performing an act of kindness for someone in need in honor of her generous spirit.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Royal University Hospital for their compassionate care.
