Shirley Yvonne Weberbauer

June 23, 1936 — May 9, 2025

Saskatoon

Shirley Yvonne Weberbauer passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at Royal University Hospital, surrounded by her three children. Born in Elbow, Saskatchewan, on June 23, 1936, to Olga and Carl Vallevand, she was the youngest of nine children and the longest-living member of her family.

Shirley had a special talent and deep love for playing the organ, which she joyfully shared for many years at the Lutheran church in Elbow. As a young woman, she caught rides to Moose Jaw for pipe organ lessons at St. Andrew’s United Church.

When she later moved to Saskatoon during a time when jobs were scarce, she prayed, “Dear God, get me a job.” Her prayer was answered, and she was blessed with employment at St. Paul's Hospital, where she worked in the admitting department.

In August 1965, Shirley went on a blind date and met her future husband, Curt Christian Weberbauer. When she saw his beautiful blue eyes, she knew he was the one. They married that November and later raised their family in the community of Easthill, where she lived for almost 60 years.

Mom was a fixture in the neighborhood. Most days, you could find her sitting on the front step, greeting neighbors as they walked by. She loved people and delighted in making others happy. Whether it was someone on her block, at the mall, or in the Co-op grocery store, she always offered a kind word—acknowledging how hard someone was working or complimenting the macaroni salad—just to brighten their day. She often reminded her children that there are still good people in the world.

Though she wasn’t fond of cellular phones, which she called “gadgets,” she treasured meaningful conversations and genuine smiles. That said, she did grow to enjoy Facebook, especially for staying connected and leaving heartfelt comments for family and friends.

The greatest gift our mother gave us was the example she set in empathy and kindness.

Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Curt, in 2014, and by her siblings: Art Vallevand, Lillian Vallevand, Leroy Vallevand, Merve Vallevand, Ralph Vallevand, Ruth (Vallevand) Williams, Leone (Vallevand) Johnson, and a stillborn brother who would have been named Donald. She loved the Lord deeply and often felt His presence through hymns, and also enjoyed discussing bible prophecy.

She is survived by her children: Curt Roderick Weberbauer; Kirsten (Weberbauer) Buck (Darren), and their sons, Eric and Peter, of Calgary; and Kevin Weberbauer (Svetlana), and their children, Misha, Timothy, Katya, Elizabeth, and Matthew of Niagara on Lake.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the nurses on the 6th floor of Royal University Hospital for their kindness, support, and the exceptional care they provided to our mother.
