Sonia Iris Karp

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sonia Iris Karp (nee Budney) at the age of 82 years.  With family by her side, she passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer, on Monday March 16, 2020 at St. Paul’s Hospital - Palliative Care.

Sonia will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 28 years, Erwin and their beloved cat Chico. She will also be missed dearly by her two daughters, Dale (Francis) Gaston and Delphine (Scott) Gauthier, grandson Mitchell McKee and her sister Ruth Wandzura.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and was predeceased by her parents Harry and Anne Budney.

Sonia was born in the Meacham district; after graduating high school she attended Saskatoon Business College and began her accounting career at Intercontinental Packers and eventually concluded her career at McDonalds Consolidated/Canada Safeway, where she retired in 1999.

She was very active in the Kinistino Royal Canadian Legion and was one of the Directors of the Kinistino Half Century Club. She enjoyed many activities  including  cooking, gardening, fishing, camping, travelling, petit point, crocheting, lawn bowling, and card games.  Because she always enjoyed dancing, she loved to attend any events that had good old time music playing. Close to her heart were the summers when her grandson Mitch would join them touring around the Okanagan Valley.  She loved entertaining family and friends and could always be found lending a hand in organizing many functions. Sonia will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her immediate and extended family and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Sonia’s memory  to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation-Close to Home Campaign or to the Saskatchewan Breast Cancer Foundation.

As per Sonia’s request a private Memorial Gathering for the immediate family will take place in Saskatoon with interment taking place at a later date at the Karp family plot in Meadowview, AB.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com .  Arrangements are entrusted to Bill Edwards of Saskatoon Funeral Home.
