Soo Fong Quan passed May 14, 2026 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon at age 99.
Soo Fong is pre-deceased by her parents: Jay Der, Jing Ah Chow, and her husband: Jack Kwan.
She is survived by her children: Lily, Philip (Caroline), and Susie. Her grandchildren Justin (Sarah), Sheila (Nathan), Leroy, Jessica (Kyo), and Christopher. Her great-grandchildren: Makena, Emeryn, Zachary, Christian, Micah, Abigail, Iziak and Lucas.
Soo Fong was born in Canton, China. Her parents valued knowledge and education even in women; They decided to send her to school and be educated despite cultural norms at the time.
She married in 1946 to Jack Kwan, had 3 children and came to Canada in 1972. They owned a restaurant for many years on 2nd Avenue, named "Bamboo Gardens" in Saskatoon. Jack passed away in 1984 and for the next 40 years became the glue that held the family together.
Soo Fong was an excellent seamstress and knitter. She loved embroidery, fashion, cosmetics, and took time to look her best. She was very healthy, walking every morning, and shopping for produce at the farmer's market across the street.
She loved to cook for us, she took time to take us to the park, out to shop, and talk about how to live a principled life. We will miss her very much.
There will be a visitation for Soo Fong on Saturday, May 23rd from 7:00 - 9:00pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home, and service on Sunday, May 24th at 10:00am at Saskatoon Funeral Home. Everyone is invited to a remembrance banquet at 4:30pm at the Mandarin Restaurant.
