Sister Patricia Kaliciak, OSU (Prelate) was called into eternal life on April 1st, 2025 in the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, after an extended illness. She was 62 years old. Daughter of Tony and Norma (Honey) Kaliciak, she was born in Shaunavon, SK on April 23, 1962, the oldest of four children and grew up on the family farm south of Bracken, SK. Upon graduating from Frontier High School, she obtained her Clerk Typist certificate from the SK Technical Institute and served as a Files Clerk at the University Hospital in Saskatoon, then as a teller with the Credit Union in Assiniboia and Bracken.

Always active in church work, she met the Ursuline Sisters during a Search weekend. Later she "gave in" to a call to religious life and entered the Ursuline congregation in 1986 at the age of 24. Following her novitiate years in Arnprior, ON and St. Angela's Academy, Prelate, where she felt she had "come home", she made her first profession in 1988. In 1992 she made her final profession and completed her B. Ed. degree at the University of Saskatchewan. Her teaching ministry was launched at Holy Trinity Academy in Okotoks, AB where she served as a dynamic and creative junior high teacher until 1997. She obtained the Graduate Diploma in Religious Education at Newman Theological College in 1998, and then served for three years as Pastoral Assistant at St. Patrick's Parish in Saskatoon, mainly as Religious Education coordinator for five elementary schools. She was the Principal of St. Angela's Academy, Prelate, SK until 2006 when her health began to fail and she was diagnosed with a fatal lung condition at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

Sister Patricia's life changed radically as she moved to Edmonton and awaited a double lung transplant which took place on May 11th, 2007. Following successful surgery, her ministry consisted in actively supporting transplant patients and their families. For several years she assisted with funeral planning for St. Thomas More Parish. As her health failed, she moved to Providence Centre where she received care prior to her lengthy hospitalization.

Sister Patricia was a firm but fun-loving educator with musical and artistic gifts. In living courageously with precarious health for over 18 years, she carried on the Ursuline ministry of "Educating for Life" by raising awareness of every breath as a gift from God.

Her religious community, the Ursulines of Prelate, extend their profound gratitude to her transplant specialists, Dr. Dale Lien and Dr. Justin Weinkauf, the UAH medical team, the Providence Centre caregivers, as well as to her family for their loving support during her final illness.

Pre-deceased by her father, Tony, in 2016, she is lovingly remembered by her Ursuline Sisters, her mother Norma in Central Butte, SK, her sisters Susan (Miles) Bennett, Dianne (Kerry) Oram and brother Vern (Heather) Kaliciak, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on April 10th at St. Philip Neri Parish, 1902 Munroe Avenue, Saskatoon with presider, Father Doug Jeffrey, OMI.
