It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Susan (Sue) Munro on Friday January 3, 2025. Susan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, auntie and friend. She leaves a legacy of love, strength, compassion, and creativity that will live on in all that she touched in her life and those she gave so much to.
Susan was born on May 4, 1961 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and raised on the family farm near Simmie, Saskatchewan. She attended school in Shaunavon and after graduation went on to attend Kelsey College in Saskatoon where she attained her diploma in Hotel Management. She worked at the Travelodge for several years. With the birth of her children, Sue pivoted her career to stay home with them and lead a very busy household. She raised her girls with love and complete devotion, instilled a sense of adventure, taught them the value of hard work and to reach for the stars believing anything is possible. When the kids were through school, Sue worked at Blackfox Farms where her talent and creatitivity shone through in her amazing flower arrangements. Later she worked at Boychuck Greenhouse, which was truly her happy place. It was more of a passion and hobby than a job and where she was able to share her vast knowledge and knack of all things gardening with pride and enthusiasm. Susan often joked that she spent more on the plants she brought home than she earned!
Susan met the love of her life and soulmate, Brad Munro, in 1980. They married on August 6, 1983 and spent the next 41 years sharing a life of true love and devoted partnership while raising their 3 daughters - Kodi, Kerrin and Jessie. Sue was a pillar of strength at Brad's side and the "on-call spell check" for Brad, always ready with her trusty red dictionary beside the phone whenever he needed her help! Susan was the backbone of their home, filling it with love, laughter and creativity. Sue's quick wit, fierce loyalty, self-confidence and unrivalled intelligence were gifts that made her a trusted confident, idea person, peer and her family's biggest supporter throughout their life together.
Susan was an incredibly talented artist, excelling in many mediums throughout her life. She learned the art of willow furniture making and wheat weaving, created countless quilts and floral arrangements, and sewed any kind of clothing. Sue was also a skilled painter. Susan created her artworks to share with those in her circle. If you received one of Susan's creations, you knew you were loved beyond words. Sue created masterpieces in everything she touched, making the world around her more beautiful.
Susan shared her passion for gardening with Brad and over the years they spent countless hours together creating an oasis in their backyard. Her green thumb and knack for flowers were truly remarkable and their yard became her happy place.
Susan was an incredible cook who could create gourmet meals from the simplest of ingredients. She loved baking and canning, and visitors to her home rarely left without a jar of her coveted dill pickles. Sue had a deep love of reading, always eager to share her favorite books and the knowledge she gained from her passion for learning with those around her.
One of Susan's greatest qualities was her ability to make others feel welcome. She was a gracious host, making everyone feel like they were her top priority, whether the visit was preplanned or completely unannounced. Susan loved to entertain and enjoyed the countless dinner parties and gatherings she and Brad hosted over the years. Her warmth and compassion for people made her truly special.
Susan is survived by her husband and lifelong soulmate, Brad, her daughters Kodi (Joe Young) and their children Jack and Samantha; and Jessie (Jeff) Munro. She was predeceased by her daughter Kerrin in 2017. Susan relished her role as "Granny" to Jack and Samantha and loved them with her whole heart. Nothing brought her more joy than a visit, cuddle or a fun-filled adventure with them.
Susan is also survived by her siblings Judy (Ken) Stevenson, Wayne (Elli) Morstad, Grant (Maureen) Morstad & Ian (Donna) Morstad. She is also survived by Brad's siblings Brent Munro (Anna Fung), Barry (Val) Munro, and Rhonda (Gerry) Fiske as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Irvin and Marion Morstad, her sister Carla Magnuson and her father and mother-in-law, Ronald and Joyce Munro.
Susan's life was a testament to living with passion and purpose. She faced life's challenges with unwavering strength and filled the lives of those around her with light, laughter and unlimited love. She did not believe in being sad, passing judgment on others or living with regret. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will always treasure the special moments they shared with her and the incredible impact she had on their life.
In honor of Susan's love of flowers, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, you send or deliver flowers to someone in your life to celebrate her memory.
