Susanne Christie

With sadness, the family announces the death of Susanne Christie. She passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, in Saskatoon at Stensrud Lodge at the age of 80 years old.

Susanne is survived by her husband Robert Christie, two daughters Lisa and Angela (partner Joshua Beaudry) and grandson Beau, as well as her brother Antal (Tony) Schidlo and wife Rae, and her sister Brigitte Sonmor (Fred). 

Susanne was born on June 10, 1946 in Bremen, Germany. She emigrated to Saskatoon with her parents and siblings in 1952. She attended Westmount Elementary School and then Bedford Road Collegiate, where she played basketball and led the school spirit as a member of the cheerleading squad. Susanne got to know Robert while they both served on the Student Council and eventually became high school sweethearts. She continued her studies at the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with a Bachelor of Education. She and Robert married on December 6, 1968. Throughout her full, successful and rewarding career, she taught elementary and special education classes at several Saskatoon schools. After retirement, she launched “To Hell with Bells”, an annual Fall event for retired Saskatoon teachers that continues to this day. 

Susanne participated in and supported many community activities, including volunteering at Persephone Theatre and the Children’s Festival, as well as being an active member of the Saskatoon Quilters Guild. She developed a love for sewing early in life and was known for her creative baby bibs, blankets and chenilles. Another passion was quilting. A proud Canadian, Susanne was honoured to receive First Place in a Provincial quilt-making competition celebrating Canada’s sesquicentennial anniversary. She also loved her orchids and gardening, Scottish Country dancing and going to her yoga sessions. 

Susanne’s love for children was evident throughout her life, especially in the care and pride she devoted to raising her daughters, and the happiness she found with her only grandson, Beau. The sound of Sue’s laughter and the warmth of her bubbly personality drew people to her wherever she went. The many friends she made throughout her life is a testament to the warmth and joy she gave so freely. 

Susanne will be dearly missed, forever loved and fondly remembered by her loving family, many friends and associates. 

In keeping with Susanne’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Gathering to Celebrate her life is being planned, which will be announced at a future date. 

In lieu of flowers, for those so wishing, donations in memory of Susanne may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
