In Loving Memory of Sylvia Yvonne Marie (Grimard) Fontaine
Sylvia Yvonne Marie Fontaine, of Prud'homme, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, surrounded by the love and laughter of her cherished family.
Born on June 22, 1963, in Saskatoon, to Guy and Thérèse Grimard. Even as a child, Sylvia carried a spark of mischief and a quiet wisdom beyond her years. Before graduating from Prud'homme High School in 1981, fate introduced her to a young farmer named Luc Joseph Fontaine in 1976. That meeting sparked a lifelong love story that would span 43 beautiful years of marriage.
Together, Sylvia and Luc built a life rooted in love, laughter, and resilience. They raised five children — Raymond, Ryan, Chantal, Joanne, and Joshua — each a reflection of Sylvia’s strength and warmth. Her legacy continues through her beloved children and grandchildren:
- Raymond Fontaine (Jamie): Thaily, Belen, Marabel, and Theodore
- Ryan Fontaine
- Chantal Leblanc (Eric): Lennon and Lucy
- Joanne Deibert (Michael): Rylee
- Joshua Fontaine (Paige)
Sylvia was a devoted mother, being a homemaker and later entering the work force. She was a tireless worker, dedicating countless years to local businesses before gracefully retiring in 2023 to prioritize her health and remaining years. Sylvia’s sewing projects and homemade baked goods were more than hobbies; they were heartfelt expressions of how much she loved her family. Sylvia found joy in everyday life. Whether she was spoiling her grandchildren, or sabotaging her husband during family games, Sylvia’s presence was the heartbeat of the family.
Sylvia's happiest place was at the family cabin where memories were made around fires, playing board games, and during water activities. It was there that Sylvia’s spirit shone brightest — surrounded by nature, family, and the simple pleasures she held dear.
Sylvia will be remembered as a woman of quiet strength, boundless compassion, and extreme generosity. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and an extraordinary mémère whose love knew no bounds.
She was predeceased by her father, Guy, 2 brothers in-law, Danny and Patrick, and a sister in-law, Wendy. She is survived by her mother, Thérèse; her husband, Luc; her siblings, Guy, Ron, Janine, and Lionel, her children and grandchildren, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held at the Prud’homme Hall on November 15, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Children's Hospital or the Ronald McDonald Foundation, two organizations close to Sylvia's heart.
Although Sylvia may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will forever echo in the lives she touched.
