Thelma Shortt was born January 3, 1925 in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, and died on December 5, 2023 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Helen Shortt; paternal half-brother, Keith Best; and close cousins, Glen, Gordon and Keith Shortt.
Thelma attended school in Kerrobert and shortly after high school she joined the RCAF (WD) where she proudly served until 1946.
A life-long learner, Thelma completed classes in Education and graduated with degrees in Arts and Occupational Therapy. She enjoyed a long career in OT, both in Saskatoon and St. Catherines, Ontario, where she was a founding member and treasurer of a multi-therapy group which has grown and thrived. This was an endeavor of which she was most proud.
Retirement provided an opportunity to continue studies, and at the age of 70 she completed her Master of Theological Studies at St. Andrew’s College, University of Saskatchewan. Retirement also allowed her to travel widely, enjoying many trips over-seas with friends.
Her later years were spent at McClure Place where she was involved in committee work at McClure Place Residence and McClure United Church. Her final homes were at Amy McClure House and Veterans Village Sherbrooke Community Centre. These warm communities were very much appreciated by Thelma.
Sincere gratitude is extended to the staff at Amy McClure House and Sherbrooke Veteran’s Village for their excellent care of Thelma in her last years.
Thelma is survived by many loving cousins, god daughters, a god son and many caring friends. A special thanks to cousins Leslie and Tom Weber of Kerrobert and friends Jeralyn and Gerald Seniuk of Saskatoon.
At Thelma’s request, there will be no funeral but a private memorial gathering at a later date. She will be cremated and interred with her parents at Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon.
In lieu of flowers, donations to McClure United Church, Sherbrooke Community Centre, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
