Mom died peacefully at St. Joseph's Home with her loving family by her side on January 26, 2025. She must have decided that it would be wonderful to reunite with Dad in heaven on his birthday. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Marija (Bill) and children Theo (Amanda), Alexei (Nicole), Christopher (Megan), Stefan (Bryanna) and Michael (Anaïs); daughter, Joyce (Michael) Schneider and children, Matthew (Kaitlyn), Vanessa and Kathleen; son, Eddy (Marcella) and children Maya, Martin (Sophia) and Luke; son, Johnny (Nicholle) and children Dominic, Joshua and Demyana as well as seven great grandchildren William, Adam, Francis, Danica, Noah, Aletheia and Owen.

The youngest of eight children, she was born in Zabukovje pri Raki, Slovenia on October October 22, 1936 to Alojz Pintaric and Marija Zorko. Her father died when she was one and life growing up on the family farm was extremely difficult and a struggle to survive. To make matters worse, they were deported to Germany in the fall of 1941 and remained there until 1945 and had to start from scratch upon their return. Despite this, mom often spoke of the fun she had with her siblings growing up, the wisdom and strength of her mom, and the love that was a constant in their home.

On October 24, 1959, Mom married Dad and soon after they added two daughters. Dad was never satisfied with the communist system of government and longed to leave Yugoslavia for a brighter future in the West. In January 1965, he arrived in Saskatoon and on July 27 of that same year, Mom completed the journey with Marija and Joyce, arriving by train from Montreal with a very limited knowledge of English. The family was complete with the arrival of Eddy and Johnny a few years later. In the early days, Dad spent some extended periods of time out of town for work and Mom had to manage the house and prepare meals while working in the evenings, first at English night classes and then in housekeeping at the Canada and Medical Arts Buildings. The last ten years of her career were spent working full time at St. Paul's Hospital. Mom loved to prepare food, go for walks, ride her bike and was a proud member of the CWL for over 45 years. The family garden provided a bountiful harvest each year and much time was spent canning and blanching for the winter months. She loved to have visitors and share food and fellowship, from large family gatherings with a wonderful meal, to a simple evening cup of tea or glass of wine with cheese and crackers at the dining room table. She was a selfless provider who loved her family unconditionally, especially her grandchildren, and her strong faith in God was evident in everything she did. She was the heart of our family, loved beyond measure and will be deeply missed.

Very special thanks to the Sisters, nurses and staff at St. Joseph's Home for their thoughtful and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be mailed to The Sisters of St. Joseph, c/o St. Joseph's Home, 33 Valens Drive, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 3S2 or call 306-382-6306 for additional options.
