It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, Ms. Cuc Thi Ton (Lucy). Lucy was born on March 9th, 1940, in South Vietnam. She was the youngest of a large family. Besides martial arts, she enjoyed riding her motorcycle, and watching her brother play soccer, a sport which she also enjoyed watching on television, in her retirement. At the age of forty, with grateful sponsorship from the now late Mrs. Connie Wilson of North Battleford, Lucy arrived Canada as a Vietnamese "boat person", September 19th, 1980. Lucy lived with Mrs. Wilson in the Riverview neighborhood of North Battleford. Connie took Lucy under her wing and was a great teacher, friend, confidant, and role model for Lucy. With Connie's help, Lucy found employment, first washing dishes at the Capri motor hotel, later working in the Co-op grocery meat department, and then for many years, the night shift at Maple Leaf Meats, packing bacon. A number of years later, Lucy bought the house next to Connie, installing a gate between the two yards, for easy access to one another. Lucy kept her home spotless and beautifully furnished. With it's pastel colours, Lucy's home was reminiscent of a pristine doll house. Lucy was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain her many guests, always asking them to eat more! She so fattened up her rolly polly, little white poodle, named Tooey! Lucy loved pets, especially cats and dogs, whether her's or someone else's. Lucy eventually retired and her dear Connie passed away. This really turned Lucy's life upside down for a time. Lucy found joy in traveling back to visit her family in Vietnam, on at least three occasions, as we recall. In her early years in Canada, she also visited her sister and family in California. Lucy accompanied the Gregory Wilson and Gerry Fernandes families to various family functions, as well as spending a month with Gerry and Donna, in Panamá in late 2016. Lucy made friends easily and has many especially in the North Battleford area. Lucy is survived by many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews in Vietnam and Taiwan, the Gregory Wilson family of North Battleford, and Edmonton, Donna Hagen and Gerry Fernandes and family of Saskatoon, Calgary, Vancouver, and Prince Albert. We especially wish to thank Lucy's neighbours, the Bater family, Arlene Heidt, and Garry Cardinal, who watched out for Lucy. Also the Battleford's Home Care staff, and her doctors, Jeffrey Hesselson, Tin-Wing Yen, and Patricia Campbell in North Battleford, as well as Diane, Donna, and Sandy, at Dr. Hesselson's office, and the wonderful staff at the Battleford's Union Hospital. Special thanks also, to the staff of Royal University Hospital emergency room, and 5300 surgical ward team who in Lucy's final days and hours, showed great care and compassion for both our dear Lucy, as well as her loved ones. Lucy peacefully crossed "to the other side", at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, just after midnight, early February 19th, 2026. A memorial service will be held in honour of our sweet Lucy, in North Battleford, perhaps in early May. Rest in Peace Perfect Peace, our beautiful Lucy. Until we meet again. We all love you so much. Arrangements entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home, 306-244-5577.
