Valentine Mercredi

It is with deep love and sadness that the family of Valentine Mercredi (born Robillard) announces her passing on October 1, 2025, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, at the age of 80.

Valentine was born in Stony Rapids, Saskatchewan, and was part of a large and loving family of 14 children. She later raised six children of her own, who were her greatest source of pride: Darrell (Monica) Mercredi, Randy (Paula) Mercredi, Rod Mercredi, Mitch (Janet) Mercredi, Patty (Rob) Lemky, and Gabe Mercredi.

She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Kalie, Kody, Taylor, Takiah, Teanna, Sydney, and Eric; her siblings Martha MacDonald, Florence MacDonald, Victor (Rosie) Robillard, Mary Rose (Al) Piesinger, John Robillard, Theresa Mercredi, George (Eileen) Robillard, Freddie Robillard, and Flora Gould; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Lucia Robillard; her former spouse, Georges Mercredi; her long-time partner Stan Campbell, and her siblings, Modest Robillard, Alphonse Robillard, Albertine Robillard and Jean Mercredi; all of whom she loved dearly.

Valentine was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She was incredibly hardworking, dedicating herself to her home and later building a career in housekeeping at various Saskatoon hotels, where she was known for her dedication and pride in her work. She created a warm and loving home filled with laughter and fond memories.

Although she grew up in Stony Rapids and spent half her life in Saskatoon, Uranium City always held a special place in her heart - she often described its beauty and her time there with fondness. She enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, dancing and listening to music - particularly country western and fiddle tunes, although she was known to listen to techno and rock from time to time. Her sense of humor, bright smile, and easy laugh brought joy to everyone around her.

A woman of strong Catholic faith, Valentine attended church regularly and continued her daily prayers even as her mobility became limited.

The family extends sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at St. Paul's Hospital and Royal University Hospital for their care and support over the past year.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Ave N).

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Place), with interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
