VELMA ALICE STEVENSON July 17, 1931 – February 5, 2018 Velma Stevenson died peacefully at Sherbrooke Community Centre on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the age of 86 years. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children; Barbara (Rod) Lund, Brian (Michelle) Stevenson and Heather (Don Summerskill) Stephens; grandchildren; Tammy, Jodi, Courtney (Tyler), Christopher (Nicole), Jessica, Keira (Graham), Sydney, Taylor, Tyler (Sydney) and Tanis; great-grandchildren; Jordyn, Tristan, Sophie, Olivia, Isla, Drake and Finley; sisters, Irene Loughran and Doreen (George) Gallagher and brother, Donald (Carol) Smith; sisters-in-law, Ethel Stevenson and Violet Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews. Velma was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Arthur; parents, John and Hazel Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Val Stevenson; great-granddaughter, Emma; sister, Winifred Pugh; brothers, Lewis, Orville and Wayne Smith; and brothers-in-law, Howard and Arnold Stevenson. Velma was born on the family farm near Bangor, SK on July 17, 1931. She grew up in Yorkton and attended nursing school in Moose Jaw. She spent her nursing career in Saskatoon, first as a private nurse and then working with addiction services. Velma was very creative throughout her life. She was self-employed as a fabric artist and participated in many craft fairs throughout the province. Some of her most prized creations were custom made liturgical hangings and vestments. Velma was a faithful long-time member of St. Thomas Wesley United Church. She spent countless hours as a member of committees and participated in every aspect of the life and work of the congregation. Velma will be remembered as a very generous and compassionate person, who gave of her time, talents and resources to so many people. No matter how busy Velma was, she always had time for all of her family and many friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Sherbrooke Community Centre for their care of Velma during the last 8 years of her life.
