We are saddened by the passing of Victoria Neufeldt of Saskatoon at Royal University Hospital on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Vicki is survived by her siblings, Dennis (Doreen) Neufeldt, and Paula (Bob) Drury; nieces Susan McCrae and Carol Drury; grand-nephews Emmet and Hayden Barriault and grand-nieces Tessa, Annika and Jetta McCrae.
Vicki was born on April 5, 1939 in Leader, SK to Fred and Emilie Neufeldt moving with the family all over Saskatchewan, till the family settled in Saskatoon in 1954. There she attended Nutana Collegiate and the U of S, attaining her B.A. She spent 2 summers with the RCAF in Saskatoon as a training officer and was promoted to rank of Pilot Officer.
Vicki received an Honourary Bursary giving her the opportunity to attend university in Munich, Germany for one session in 1962. Upon returning to Canada, she continued her studies in Linguistics, receiving her PhD in Toronto. Vicki was also a volunteer with CUSO, teaching English in Bogota, Colombia, becoming fluent in Spanish as well as French and German.
Words were always fascinating to Vicki, so she followed her interests by joining Gage Publishing in Toronto, working on their dictionaries before moving to the United States, where she worked with the Webster Dictionary series, becoming Editor-in-Chief of Webster's New World Dictionary. Vicki moved back to Saskatoon to finish her career while working as Editor-in-chief on her pride and joy: a special Illustrated Children's Dictionary.
Vicki had many interests and occupations: she taught English as a 2nd Language at the U of S; she was involved with the CFUW and the Saskatoon Historical Society; she enjoyed music and the theatre, regularly attending the Saskatoon Symphony and Persephone performances. She also attended piano recitals at Gustin House and Jazz at the Basement.
Faith was important to Vicki as a member of First Mennonite Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 followed by a reception.
