Walter Wieder

Walter Wieder, aged 96, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026. Born on November 9,1929, in Invermay, Saskatchewan, Walter was raised in a small farmhouse alongside his nine siblings. He was the last surviving member of his family’s generation.

Walter grew up a farm boy through and through. From a young age, he worked alongside his father and siblings, with his very first job being picking rocks from the fields. He often recalled walking several kilometers to church with his brothers and sisters — early memories that helpedshape his lifelong devotion to his Catholic faith. His faith remained a steady foundation throughout his life.

Walter eventually made his home in Meath Park, Saskatchewan, where he lived with his beloved wife, Nena (predeceased). He met Nena at a New Year’s Eve party when he was 36 years old and immediately fell in love. Though she played hard to get, their love story prevailed. They married and were blessed with their beautiful daughter, Barb, who became the pride of his life.

Like his father before him, Walter farmed the land. He also worked in the mines to help support his family, embodying the tireless work ethic of his generation. Later in life, he became the owner of the local store, hotel, and bar in Meath Park, serving his community with dedication and pride. During this time, he employed his longtime friend Michele Sachkowski. Through that friendship with Michele and her husband Daryl, Walter became an adopted grandfather to their four daughters — Caitlyn, Devyn, Tristyn, and Jordyn — a role he cherished deeply.

Walter was a proud father who never hesitated to share stories of Barb’s accomplishments. He would often say that of all his achievements, she was his greatest. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and enjoyed cheering them on each season. He loved fishing with his dear friend Ken (deceased) and treasured the quiet moments spent outdoors. An animal lover at heart, Walter had a special tenderness for his pets — his dogs Hobo and Shadow, and his cat Mister — who were showered with affection and treats.

Walter will be remembered as a selfless, hardworking, and deeply kind man. He was always willing to help others, expecting only kindness in return. His steady presence, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family will be profoundly missed.

He leaves behind his daughter Barb, his extended and adopted family, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

His family will miss him dearly and will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude.
