William Ted Markus(1943-2025)

We are very saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Ted Markus at home on August 21, 2025 at the age of 82. Ted was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Ted was born on January 31, 1943 in St. Boniface Manitoba and grew up in the Winnipeg area. He is survived by his wife Jeannette; son Todd (Carla) and their children Isabelle, Trey and Covey; and son Jonathon (Leanne) and his children Averi and Tyler; his sister, Adele Duguid; sister-in-law Nora Ortman; brother-in-law Eldon Ortman as well as nieces and nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Marion (Mike) and Olga; sister-in-law Dianne; brothers-in-law Gerald, David and Kenneth.

Ted joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in July of 1963 and served the people of Saskatchewan in various communities for 33 years. He and Jeannette met at their friend's wedding and were married for 57 years. He cultivated many life-long friendships while living and being involved in the various places he was stationed. Ted and Jeannette's values were deeply rooted in faith and he was active in the Anglican Church in Prince Albert, Yorkton, Lloydminster and Saskatoon. We will be eternally grateful to have had him in our lives and his warm and generous nature will be forever missed by all who knew him.

One of Ted's passions was his involvement with his sons' activities, mainly hockey, golf and tennis. He took on various positions at the team level and with the local Minor Hockey Associations. Another passion was his love of the outdoors that included camping and fishing in Prince Albert National Park. For many years he enjoyed canoeing, tenting and portaging, connecting with nature in some of the most primitive areas of the park where few people have gone before.

Ted enjoyed a long retirement where he continued to nurture his love of woodworking, creating beautiful furniture and cabinets. He was also an active member of the RCMP Veteran's Association serving as president and treasurer for many years. Having been a former Kinsmen, he joined the K-40 Club where he also served as president and enjoyed their fellowship. Retirement also afforded Ted and Jeannette opportunities to travel with their friends and family; a highlight being the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain.

One of the greatest pleasures for Ted, however, was being involved in his grandchildren's activities. He enjoyed attending many of their hockey and volleyball games, piano recitals and dance performances. He loved them dearly and was very proud of them and enjoyed hearing about all of their goals and accomplishments.

A special thank you to our parish family at St. Stephen's Anglican Church for all their love, support and prayers. The family is especially thankful to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, Heather Plaxton, N.P. and the Palliative Care Team for all their care and attentiveness to all our needs and concerns.

If you wish to make a donation, please consider the Saskatoon Cancer Centre or the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.

A Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance will be held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 10 Grosvenor Crescent, Saskatoon, SK at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 26, 2025.
