Yogavathie "Margie" Moodley

Yogavathie "Margie" Moodley passed away peacefuly after a brief illness at Saint Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon on July 10th/2026 at the age of 91. She was comforted by the presence of her family.

She was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on February 28th 1935 to the late Subramani Chetty and the late Meenatchy Chetty. 

She had 9 brothers and sisters and her early life was spent in school but was interrupted by the necessity of working in the family business.

In 1961 she married Manogran Moodley. Their early life was spent in Durban, South Africa where Dad completed his teacher training and soon began his 30 year career as a teacher. All three of their children were born in South Africa.

She raised her children in difficult political and social circumstances in South Africa under Apartheid governance.

In 1978, our family was most fortunate to immigrate to Canada.

In Canada, she fearlessly forged a life in rural Saskatchewan for multiple decades while our father taught school. It was a deeply fulfilling and happy time even thought it was filled with challenges. 

The tragedy of her life was the loss of her beloved husband Manogran in 1995. However, she still lived many more decades in Saskatoon and Abbottsford B.C. surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grand children whom she adored and who adored her. 

She is predeceased by her husband Manogran. She is survived by her 3 children: Vanitha (Miles), Preedashini, and Uthaman (Anita) as well as many grand children and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger and dear sister Patma Appavoo of Calgary, Alberta. 

Her life was one of love and commitment to her family and faith. She was a gentle and kind soul and beloved by all those who were fortunate enough to know her. She was deeply loved, revered, and will be greatly missed. 

A private memorial service was held on July 15th. A celebration of life will be planned in the near future.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and residents at Trinity Manor, Just Like Family Home Care, as well as the wonderful, compassionate care she received by the Palliative Care Team at Saint Paul's Hospital.
