On Friday, October 20, 2023, Yok Yin passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital with family at her side.
She will be fondly remembered by her children, Shirley(Tony), Jinette(Roman), Dianna(John), Laurie, Susana, William(Tina), Julie(Clayton); as well as her grandchildren, Stephanie, Leslie & Erik, Nathan, Jordan & Brandon, Lauryn & Samuel, Zana, Lily & Maxwell; as well as her great granddaughter Maeve.
She is predeceased by her husband Joe Chan, and her three brothers, Wu Yi Ling, Ng Tai Cheung, Wu Xin Yan. Mom will be deeply missed by her extended family and friends, whose lives she has significantly touched over the years.
Mom immigrated to Canada along with her husband Joe and her children in 1969. She was widowed in 1978 and raised seven children on her own. In addition she nurtured her grandchildren and instilled in us the meaning of family values.
Mom showed her love with her cooking and her generosity. In her later years she was involved in organizations such as the Open Door Society, Immigrant Women of Saskatchewan and was president of her tenant association. Mom took great pride in her family and their accomplishments.
We would like to thank the medical and nursing team at RUH Medicine and especially the palliative care team at St. Paul’s Hospital for their kindness and excellent care.
A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1 pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Avenue North, Saskatoon, Sk). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom’s memory to St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit.
